SENATOR DAMON THAYER REACTS TO TOYOTA'S OVER $1 BILLION INVESTMENT INTO FLAGSHIP FACILITY

Senator Damon Thayer represents the City of Georgetown and Scott County, home to Toyota’s largest manufacturing facility.

FRANKFORT, KY (Feb. 6, 2024) — The following is a statement from Senate Majority Floor Leader Damon Thayer, R-Georgetown, upon Toyota's announcement of an additional $1.3 billion into its Georgetown-based facility:

"Toyota is one of our state's greatest business partners, and they have been one of my favorite organizations to work with as Senator from Georgetown and Scott County. I consider myself fortunate to represent the fastest-growing city in the state, and its continued success and bustling communities owe a large part of it to Toyota's presence. This new investment is significant, and we can all be grateful for Toyota's trust in Kentucky as a home to its flagship facility, which will soon have an even bigger footprint.

"For the remainder of my final session as Senator for the 17th District, I will continue advocating for the pro-business and pro-growth policies that I believe have been conducive to investments like this from Toyota and other companies."

BACKGROUND

Toyota Kentucky has been a hub of the automaker's North American operations since 1986, a release from the company read. Its nearly 9,400 team members have assembled some of the most beloved nameplates in the Toyota lineup, including the Camry – America's best-selling passenger car for 22 consecutive years. The latest investment will support future electrification efforts, including assembling an all-new, three-row battery electric SUV for the U.S. market. The project will bring the plant's total investment to nearly $10 billion and support the previously announced future BEV assembly at Toyota Kentucky. It also adds a battery pack assembly line to the facility, with batteries supplied by Toyota Battery Manufacturing North Carolina.
